For doctors, lawyers and business leaders within a few years of retiring

You planned your pension. Have you planned the person who retires?

The free Ready to Retire checklist shows you, across six areas of life, where you are ready to retire and where you could feel lost once work stops.

Created by Bimbi Fernando, a retired consultant transplant surgeon and author, and Andrew Devic, an executive coach to senior medics and CEOs.

The money is sorted. So why does retirement still feel unsettling?

For decades your work gave you a title, a timetable, colleagues and a reason to get up. Retirement takes all of that away on the same day. These are the questions senior professionals tell us they carry quietly.

  • Who am I without my professional title?

When the title recedes, the person remains. We help you name the values and experience that got you here, and where they could take you next.

  • What will I actually do with my days?

Without a plan, open time can feel like a void rather than freedom. We help you build daily and weekly rhythms of your own choosing.

  • Do I really have enough money to stop?

Many careful planners still do not trust their numbers. We help you see what your money is for, so the figures serve the life you want.

  • Where will my friends come from?

Work quietly supplied company. Our community gives you people making exactly the same shift, online every week and in person through the year.

The Six Shifts: S·H·I·F·T·S

Most retirement planning stops at the money. The Six Shifts cover the other five things work gave you.

Retirement is not one change but six. The Six Shifts are a plan you work through at your own pace, alongside other professionals making the same shift.

S, Soulfrom busy to meaningful

Reconnect with what gives life meaning, through mentoring, creative work, giving back or projects of your own.

H, Healthfrom coasting to energised

Sleep, movement and wellness, so you have the energy for everything you hope to do.

I, Identityfrom job title to whole self

Discover who you are beneath the career, supported by peers walking exactly the same path.

F, Financesfrom numbers to peace of mind

Make sure your money serves the life you want, for peace of mind that lasts.

Education, not regulated financial advice. We will point you to qualified professionals where you need them.

T, Timefrom winding down to designing your days

Stop seeing retirement as winding down. Treat it as a design project where your time finally belongs to you.

S, Structurefrom an imposed timetable to rhythms you chose

Simple daily and weekly rituals that give your week a shape you chose, rather than one that was imposed.

Usual retirement planning

  • Pension, savings and tax
  • A leaving do and a last day
  • Work out the rest on your own

The Six Shifts

  • All six areas of life, not just money
  • A personal plan you build before your last day
  • A community of people making the same shift

Who we are

Two people who have made this shift themselves

We are not financial planners selling a product. We are professionals who left demanding careers and found that the hardest part of retiring had nothing to do with money.

Bimbi Fernando

MBBS, MD, FRCS · Co-founder

For decades my life was defined by the intensity and focus of work as a consultant transplant surgeon. Stepping toward the next phase taught me that leaving a demanding vocation is not an ending. It is a transition that needs as much intention, curiosity and care as entering one.

I wrote Purposeful Retirement and the award-winning The Forgotten Compass to help others make that transition well.

Recently retired from corporate life himself, he helps people move from retirement to “rewirement”: rediscovering purpose and redefining what a meaningful life looks like beyond an established career.

Questions people ask us

Is it really free?

Yes. The checklist, the Purpose Quiz, the newsletter and the podcasts are free, with no card details. Paid options are there if you want them later, and you will never be pushed into them.

Will I get sales calls?

No. We send shared wisdom by email, and you can unsubscribe with one click.

I am still five or ten years away. Is it too early?

No, it is the ideal time. Planning the life side of retirement takes longer than the money side, and it is far easier to try things while you are still working.

I have already retired. Is it too late?

Not at all. Many people only notice what work gave them once it has gone. The Six Shifts help you rebuild those things on your own terms.

Can my partner join too?

Yes. Retirement changes life for both of you, and partners and couples are warmly welcome to take part side by side.

Is this financial or medical advice?

No. We offer education, community and coaching. For advice on your own money or health, please speak to an FCA-regulated financial adviser or your GP.
